PBIS
SHADOW HILLS HAWKS ARE COLLEGE AND CAREER BOUND! WE ARE RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, AND KIND!
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social-emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teachers' health and well-being. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.
SHADOW HILLS HAWKS ARE COLLEGE AND CAREER BOUND! WE ARE RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, AND KIND!
We have adopted a unified set of the school-wide Code of Student Conduct. These are defined as expectations for behavior in our school. You will see these expectations posted throughout our school and your child will be learning them during the first few weeks of school.
As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. To ensure that all students are following expectations positively, we do the following when teaching academics and behavior.
- Constantly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations.
- Provide students with more praise than corrections.
- Talk to students with respect using positive voice tones.
- Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
- Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach.
- Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback.
PBIS REWARDS
PBIS Rewards is a school-wide PBIS management system that makes it easy to continuously recognize students for meeting behavior expectations (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe and Be Kind). Our Hawks are awarded points by staff when they are “caught” displaying positive behavior. In turn, students can use these points to redeem in our school store.
